CONSERVE OUR UNIQUE HERITAGE
ENJOY THE  STEYNING  COMMUNITY

We are the largest society in Steyning – a social group with serious intent.

Our aim is to encourage people to meet and take an interest in local affairs. We do this by having monthly talks on a wide range of topics, by arranging outings and other social events, including an Annual Christmas Supper which is held jointly with Steyning Museum.

As a large independent society, we can keep an eye on what is happening in the town and are active in town affairs. We support community activities, use of High Street shops and actively protect Steyning’s very special historic landscape. We aim to influence any further developments of our lovely town by commenting on planning applications and other proposals which could affect the character of Steyning, its ancient buildings and the surrounding countryside.

We update and publish the Guide to the Steyning Conservation Area. We are working with our parish and district councils to produce a local heritage list of buildings etc. which do not qualify for national listing but which are nevertheless of local significance.

We also make grants for local projects with a view to maintaining and improving the amenities of Steyning.

We keep in touch with our members through a quarterly newsletter.

Further details of what we do can be found in the other sections of this website.  Details of how to apply for a grant can be found in the Contacts and Grants section.

If you are a Steyning resident or have strong links with the town or are thinking of moving to the area, you should join the Society, using the Join Us section of this website. You will meet like-minded people, feel part of the Community and be better informed about the local area.

We are registered with the Charity Commission as a charity (charity number 269859).
